Wildcats edge Florida State in 12 innings

Joey Rickard doubled to the gap in left-center field and Johnny Field knocked in his teammate with a double to the gap in right-center field in the top of the 12th inning as the Arizona Wildcats edged Florida State 4-3 tonight in the first round of the College World Series in Omaha. Right-hander Kurt Heyer did his thing early on. He threw 128 pitches and left the mound with two outs in the eighth inning with the score tied at 3-3. Tyler Crawford and Mathew Troupe shutout the Seminoles the rest of the way. Offensively,  the Wildcats banged out ten hits off the Seminoles' pitching staff, but it was the back-to-back doubles by Rickard and Field that sealed the deal for the Wildcats and sent them into a second-round matchup on Sunday against the UCLA Bruins, who knocked off Stony Brook 9-1 earlier today. Way to go, Wildcats!
