Blackbirds go after 5th win

The Blackbirds broke out of a hitting slump last Thursday at Reid Park  as they banged out 17 hits en route to an 11-5 win over the Phillies and picked up a much-needed victory -- their fourth of the season in the Mountain Division -- a 38-and-over highly-competitive wood bat league. The Blackbirds (4-6) will go after their fifth victory on Thursday night when they tangle with the Braves (5-5). One of the Blackbirds' losses this season came at the hands of the Braves by a score of  7-5 back in April, so they would like nothing better than to pull out a win and pull even with the Braves in the standings. The Blackbirds are still nursing their share of injuries -- including yours truly. Hard to believe I've been on the DL four weeks already. Hector Iglecias continues to pound the ball for the Blackbirds, including three more hits last Thursday against the Phillies and also was the winning pitcher, going the distance for his fourth win of the year. Iglecias is batting .571, while Sean Rollins leads the team with a .578 average. Both players are among the league leaders in batting average, Rollins is fifth and Iglecias is sixth in the league.
