U.S. athletes reach 90 in medal count

The Americans won nine more medals today in London. Five of the medals were of the gold variety with the U.S. women's soccer team the top headliner as they beat Japan in the final, 2-1. The women's team also won a gold in water polo and a gold in boxing as Claressa Shields won the first ever gold medal in the sport for a woman boxer from the United States. The title of "world's greatest athlete" goes to Ashton Easton who wins the gold medal in the decathlon today for Team USA, while Christian Taylor won the fifth gold of the day in the men's triple jump.  The United States lengthened its lead in the total medal count over second place China, 90 to 80.
