Drew gone!

I'll miss Stephen Drew.

The 29-year-old shortstop gave the Arizona Diamondbacks six good years, although the injury bug kept him out of the lineup for most of 2011 and half of the 2012 season. He's a smooth hombre at the shortstop position and he'll fit in well with the Oakland A's.

When he gets his stroke back, chances are he'll put a hurt on the Diamondbacks in the near future. I thought weeks ago that we might lose right fielder  Justin Upton, instead it's Drew who clears out his locker at Chase Field and heads elsewhere. Good luck, Stephen. It's just business and the crazy things that happens when the free agency market raises its ugly head and causes some last-minute shuffling. Oakland gets a five-star player in my book.

Luckily, we still have Willie Bloomquist, John McDonald and rookie Jake Elmore to fill the void. Lost in the shuffle for now will be 23-year-old Sean Jamieson, who was part of the waiver trade announced late Monday night. Jamieson, who was selected in the 17th round of the 2011 draft, played in 118 games for Class A Burlington this season and will report to Class A South Bend for the Diamondbacks.
