Diamondbacks fall to Padres

The Arizona Diamondbacks are sinking fast while the LA Dodgers are heading in the other direction with their play on the field and up in the trading booth.

The Dodgers prepare for the stretch run by picking up Adrian Gonzalez and Josh Beckett from the Boston Red Sox and now sport a middle of the lineup that includes Matt Kemp, Gonzalez and Hanley Ramirez, not to mention Andre Ethier and don't forget Carl Crawford, who also came over in the trade. Fortunately for the Diamondbacks, Crawford is injured and won't see action until next season.

As for the Diamondbacks, they can't beat San Diego as the Padres win again today and leave town after taking three straight from Arizona.

As for trades, Arizona sends lefty Joe Saunders packing to the Baltimore Orioles and they pick up a middle reliever in Matt Lindstrom, who'll report for duty tomorrow. The Diamondbacks now have a pitching rotation which includes three rookies -- Pat Corbin, Tyler Skaggs and Wade Miley. Arizona, after losing three games to the Padres, are now back to .500 ball at  64-64, while the Dodgers are snapping at the heels of the NL West leader, San Francisco, with a 69-59 record.
