McCarthy tosses gem

Brandon McCarthy tosses eight strong innings and Paul Goldschmidt goes 3 for 4 and drives in his 107th run of the season as the Arizona Diamondbacks edge the Giants 2-1 in San Francisco tonight.

McCarthy (4-9) allows six hits and strikes out six. Brad Ziegler comes on in the ninth inning to pick up the save. Arizona improves to 72-69 and will try to win three of four with the Giants as they send Wade Miley (9-10) to the mound tomorrow afternoon.

As for Goldschmidt, he continues to lead the National League in RBIs. The Diamondbacks all star first baseman is six runs ahead of Cincinnati's Brandon Phillips, who has 101. Allen Craig (STL) is in third place with 97.
