Diamondbacks squeeze out a win in season finale
The Arizona Diamondbacks squeezed out a 3-2 win in their season finale at Chase Field against the Washington Nationals and in doing so finished the regular season with an 81-81 record -- the same record they finished with a year ago.
David Hernandez picked up the win in relief and Brad Ziegler earned his 13th save. Paul Goldschmidt hit a sacrifice fly for his 125th RBI and also singled as he finished the season with a 19-game hitting streak.
It was the longest season in history for the Diamondbacks as they played 1, 538 innings to break the major league record set in 1964 by the New York Yankees.
As for the D'backs, they will have to wait till next year.
