Diamondbacks even series with Padres

Shortstop Didi Gregorius tripled in the winning run in the top of the 12th inning and first baseman Paul Goldschmidt homers in the 6th inning -- his 36th of the season and 124th RBI of the year -- as the Arizona Diamondbacks edge San Diego 2-1 last night and even the four-game series with the Padres at one game apiece.

The series continues at Petco Park in San Diego with a game tonight and an afternoon game on Thursday. Arizona (80-77) needs one more win to avoid a losing season.

Arizona sent eight pitchers to the mound last night as Josh Collmenter (5-4) gets the win in relief and Brad  Ziegler gets the save, his 12th of the season.
