Fast game, good pitching

60-and-over baseball

Fast game and good pitching.

That pretty much sums up today's 60-and-over Tucson Old Timers (TOTS) baseball game held at Udall Park.

Lefty Ron Petersen, age 68, and right-hander Lloyd Barzell (63), two pitchers who will be heading for the 2013 MSBL/MABL World Series in Phoenix next month, battled to the end in a 1-1 final score.

All the runs were scored in the fourth inning. Team White, Barzell's squad, got their run in the top of the inning on an RBI-single to left by 69-year-old Dave Rhoades. Chico Bigham, 74, scored from third. In the bottom of the inning, Petersen helped his own cause with a one-out RBI on a three-hopper to first base. First-sacker Jeff Helzel, 71, made the unassisted putout, but the tying run scored from third and Team Blue avoided a goose egg as well.

And that's the way it ended. Another one of those "kiss your sister" games.

Today's game lasted just one hour and 30 minutes. Even old-timers can work at a fast pace.
