Yankees done, Cards need one more

Not much drama in Game 4 of the ALCS.

The Detroit Tigers win easily 8-1 behind a strong pitching performance from Max Scherzer tonight in Detroit. The former Diamondbacks' right-hander pitched 5 2/3 innings and struck out 10, while allowing the Yankees just two hits.

The Yankees are done and the Tigers await their World Series opponent -- the St. Louis Cardinals or the San Francisco Giants. The Cardinals took a 3-1 lead in the NLCS tonight with a 3-1 victory over the Giants thanks in part to a splendid pitching performance from Adam Wainwright. The Cardinals' right-hander threw seven innings of shutout ball and allowed just four hits. He struck out five and did not walk a batter. The Cardinals will try to close out the series tomorrow night in St. Louis when they send Lance Lynn to the mound to face the Giants' Barry Zito.
