Tigers, Verlander eliminate Oakland
Justin Verlander tossed a complete game and allowed just four hits as the Detroit Tigers eliminated the surprising Oakland A's 6-0 tonight in Oakland. The Tigers move on in postseason play and will take on the New York Yankees or the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Championship Series. Verlander struck out 11 and walked just one batter as the Tigers ended Oakland's magical season.
The Orioles, another surprising team which gained a postseason playoff berth, knocked off the Yankees 2-1 tonight in New York to even their series at two games apiece. The game took 13 innings and the game-winner came from Tucson-product and former Sabino High School standout J.J. Hardy (above photo) who doubled in Manny Machado in the top of the ninth inning to even the series.
