Scorpions qualify for MSBL WS playoffs

The good news first. The Arizona Scorpions reached the playoffs at the 2012 MSBL World Series and will play Saturday at 9 AM at Fitch Park in Mesa against the fourth-seeded San Diego Mudcats.

Now the bad news. We lost today 14-1 to the Sacramento Solons and will go into the playoffs as the fifth-seed. One of our losses was to the Mudcats on Wednesday, a 17-5 drubbing. The South Dakota Rushmores (5-0) are the top seed and the San Diego Padres (4-1) grabbed the second-seed. Both of those teams receive first-round byes on Saturday. The Sacramento Solons (3-2) will be the third-seed and will take on the Tri Valley Giants  (2-3), the sixth-seed.

With our pitching depleted -- our top pitcher Doc Thompson returned to Tucson for personal reasons and the third hurler in our rotation is under the age of 70 and is on a waiver and not allowed to pitch in the playoffs. Our back is up against the wall, to say the least, as the Scorpions will be forced to throw everything but the kitchen sink at the Mudcats on Saturday. It will take two wins on Saturday to reach the finals on Sunday. Another loss and we can pack our bags and go home.

Wish us luck!
