Verlander, Tigers go up 3-0 in ALCS

Justin Verlander (photo above) pitched 8 1/3 innings and the Tigers held on to beat the New York Yankees 2-1 in Game 3 of the ALCS tonight in Detroit. The Tigers are now within one win of reaching the 2012 World Series. Ishiro Suzuki had two hits for the Yankees, both off Verlander. The Tigers' righthander gave up a run in the top of the ninth when Eduardo Nunez homered. Delmon Young homered in the fourth inning for the Tigers and Miguel Cabrera doubled in a run in the fifth. But it was Verlander who turned in another masterful performance. He threw 132 pitches and did not walk a batter, while striking out three and allowing the three hits.
