Wildcats head for Washington State after knocking around Sun Devils at Hi Corbett

Arizona Wildcats Baseball

It was just one night in a so-so season, but it had to be fun for the players on the University of Arizona baseball team.

Arizona (25-17) pounded out 20 hits and scored 17 runs at Hi Corbett on Tuesday night en route to a 17-6 win over the visiting Arizona State Sun Devils (28-13). The game didn't count in the Pac-12 standings, but the Wildcats, for three hours or so, were a happy bunch.

Arizona freshman J.J. Matijevic went 3 for 4 and was a double shy of hitting for the cycle, while knocking in seven runs. Teammate Bobby Dalbec had a good night as well with four hits in five trips to the plate. Matijevic hit a grand slam homer in the first inning and Dalbec hit his 13th home run of the year in the fifth and knocked in six runs.

Kevin Newman went 5 for 5 and scored five runs.

The Wildcats take on Washington State in Pullman on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
