Padres edge Diamondbacks, 3-2

Arizona Diamondbacks

Justin Upton hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning and closer Craig Kimbrel shut down the Diamondbacks in the top of the ninth for his third save of the season as the San Diego Padres edged Arizona 3-2 tonight at Petco Park.

Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run homer for the D'backs -- his third of the year, and a good outing by Chase Anderson was wasted. Anderson scattered eight hits and allowed two runs in six innings of work, but gave way to Randall Delgado in the seventh. Delgado allowed one hit, unfortunately for the D'backs, the hit sailed into the left field bleachers -- the third home run of the season for Upton.

Arizona (4-5) heads for San Francisco and a four-game series with the Giants. Rookie Archie Bradley (1-0) will take the mound on Thursday in the opening game of the series for the Diamondbacks, while Madison Bumgarner (1-1) will take the hill for the Giants.
