Season ends for Tucson MSBL Blackbirds

The 38-and-over Tucson MSBL Blackbirds lost in the first round of the playoffs tonight at Reid Park as the Beantown Bombers held on for a 7-5 win. The Blackbirds jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but the Bombers answered back in the fourth inning with four runs and added another three-spot in the seventh to dismantle the Blackbirds. The Bombers brought in their ace right-hander Dan Desgagne in the fifth inning and he proceeded to mow down the Blackbirds the rest of the way. Desgagne showed an occasional curve ball, but relied mostly on a blazing fastball and consistently painted the outside corner as he rolled through the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth inning. The Beantown Bombers move on to the semifinals next week, while the Blackbirds will put away their gear until next season.

Price Watch: My son, Michael, went 1 for 3 tonight, while I made my return to the Blackbirds after being off four months due to a foot injury. It wasn't a good night for the old man as I went 0 for 4 and was caught looking in the ninth inning as Desgagne sizzled a 3-2 pitch by me.
