Iglecias top stats leader for Tucson MSBL Blackbirds
Hector Iglecias pretty much ran the table in the statistical categories for the 38-and-over Tucson MSBL Blackbirds this season.
The Blackbirds, who were eliminated from post season play last Thursday at Reid Park after a 7-5 loss to the Beantown Bombers, received an outstanding effort all season long from Iglecias. Hector finished the year with a .500 batting average as he collected the most plate appearances (79), the most at-bats (74), the most hits (37), the most runs scored (28) and hit the Blackbirds only home run. When the crafty righthander went to the mound, he also produced impressive numbers. Iglecias (5-8) led the team in innings pitched with 88 and led the team, and the league, in strikeouts with 66.
Tom Bolen, the Blackbirds' first baseman, tied for the team lead in RBI at 13 with catcher, and manager, Robin Badart. Sean Rollins and Sean Flynn led the team in doubles -- Rollins with eight and Flynn with seven, while Rich Richon led the squad in triples with three. Other top hitters with less than 50 plate appearances include Chris Abrahamson (a .578 average with 11 for 19) and Rollins ( a .522 average with 23 hits in 44 at bats). Jaime Cuesta finished the year as the top reliever for the Blackbirds, sporting a 2-1 record with 31 strikeouts and just five walks. All in all, a great season for the first-year Blackbirds, who finished the year with a team batting average of .362 and qualified for the playoffs.
The 2012 Mountain Division Blackbirds' roster: Chris Abrahamson, Robin Badart (Manager), Stephen Badart, Tom Bolen, Jaime Cuesta, David Delk, Sean Flynn, Allen Gillespie, Hector Iglecias, Alex Oropeza, Carlos Pargas, Dan Price, Michael Price, Rick Rochon, Sean Rollins and Paul Smith.
