Bobby "D" on a roll

Tucson Old Timers (TOTS)

60-and-over baseball

Bob Daliege, 67, joined the Tucson Old Timers (TOTS) in 2010. He's played some infield, some outfield and even strapped on the catcher's gear. Fast forward to 2015 and you can even find Bobby "D" on the mound.

Daliege, who grew up in Chicago, loves Tucson and he especially loves the month of October.

Why?

Because the month of October means it's time  to head for Phoenix and the Men's Senior Baseball League World Series -- the prestigious senior tournament, held Oct. 18 through Nov. 8, which allows the old timers who love the game of baseball to strut their stuff at all the major league spring training facilities in and around Phoenix.

Bob got his feet wet in the MSBL World Series three years ago and got hooked. "I enjoy every minute of it," he says.

Last year, Daliege pitched a few innings in the tournament and he can't wait to take the mound again with the 65-and-over Tucson Aces, who open play Oct. 24 against the Ohio Classics -- a 12:30 p.m.
game to be held at Fitch Park in Mesa.

Daliege and the Aces will play five round-robin games during the 65-and-over tournament in hopes of qualifying for the playoffs with a shot (just, maybe!) at reaching the title game to be held at Tempe Diablo Stadium on Oct. 30.

In the meantime, Daliege is busy practicing. Today, the hard-throwing right-hander tossed a shutout as Team White edged Team Blue, 3-0, at Udall Park.

Way to go, Bobby!

Now, cool your jets! We have a few weeks to go before we head north to Phoenix.

  1. Thanks for the stories on Bobby and Billy. Two great teammates, I don't think I have ever been on the field when I have not been encouraged by those two. Thanks Danny for keeping me involved when I can't be on the field.
