President's Day Game

Dan Lundwall and Pigpen Price haven't exactly hit the cover off the ball this winter. Finding the "sweet spot" on those old aluminium bats can be a big problem at times. Both players finished the month of January with just six hits apiece.

Today, they both broke out of their "mini slumps" as Lundwall and Price went 3 for 4 to lead Team White to a 13-9 win over Team Blue in a 60-and-over game at Udall Park. Lloyd Barzell, who led the club in hits in 2015, doesn't concern himself with hitting slumps and today it was just another day at the  plate for him as he went 2 for 4 and drove in four runs for Team White.  All in all, a good day for Team White as pitcher Bob Daliege goes seven innings and picks up the win.

Team Blue kept pace with Team White for most of the game, thanks mainly to "Double D" Dick Ducklow, who went 3 for 4 and drove in four runs. Lefty Ron Petersen was saddled with the loss.

"I had a good day," said Lundwall, following the game. "It's nice to connect. It makes a lot of difference when you find the sweet spot."

As for Price, he feels like he has a lot of work to do. "I had three hits today, but two of them were infield hits. I had my worst month in eight years with the TOTS last month. I think I finished the month with a .188 average. Just awful!"

The good news: Price and Lundwall have the rest of the year to right the ship. As for Barzell, he's off to another good start this season with 17 hits in January, on pace for the another 200-plus hit season.
