First-year coach Jay Johnson got his first victory tonight in Houston as the Arizona Wildcats win their season opener 8-1 over 20th-ranked Rice. Cody Ramer went 2 for 4 and drove in a pair of runs, while JC Cloney (1-0) pitched seven strong innings, allowing just four hits.

Arizona continues the series with Rice on Saturday at 3 p.m.
