Yankees move on to ALCS

American League Division Series Update

The New York Yankees won Game 3 of the ALDS in Minnesota tonight with a 5-1 win over the Twins and advance on to the American League Championship Series. Gleybar Torres hit a solo homer  in the second inning, Brett Gardner hit an RBI-single in the third and Didi Gregorius added an RBI-single in the seventh. Cameron Maybin finished off the Twins with a solo homer in the ninth and Gregorius added another RBI-single to complete the scoring for the Yankees.

The Yankees will have to wait for their opponent as Tampa Bay's Craig Morton (1-0) allowed the Houston Astros just three hits and one earned run through five innings of work to pick up the 10-3  win today in St. Petersburg, Florida to set up a Game 4 on Tuesday.  Kevin Kiermaier provided the big blow for the Rays with a three-run homer in the second inning off Houston's starter Zack Greinke. Tampa Bay ended up hitting three more homers -- solo shots by Ji-Man Choi, Brandon Lowe and Willy Adames.

National League Division Series Update

It's a different story in the NLDS. The St. Louis Cardinals evened the series at 2-2 with a 5-4 win today in St. Louis over the Atlanta Braves to set up a Game 5 in Atlanta on Wednesday. Yadier Molina hit a single in the eighth inning to tie the game at 4-4 today and then hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning to plate the game-winner and extend the series.

Max Scherzer (1-0) pitched seven strong innings and Ryan Zimmerman hit a three-run homer in Washington, D.C. tonight to lift the Nationals to a 6-1 win over the Dodgers to extend the NLDS back to Los Angeles for a Game 5 on Wednesday.
