Tucson Toros even MSBL WS record at 1-1

Men's  Senior Baseball League World Series

65-and-over Cactus Division

Tucson Toros

Ernesto "Doc" Escala pitched five innings and picked up the win as the Tucson Toros -- with five players from the 60-and-over Tucson Old Timers, beat Paladin from Albuquerque, 15-10, today at the Men's Senior Baseball World Series.

The Toros played in Goodyear, spring training home of the Cleveland Indians, and they plated enough runs early on to take down Paladin, the former team of John Mathews, who played for the Albuquerque team last year at the world series.

Tim Tolson, Joe Opocensky and Escala -- all three members of the TOTS, collected two hits apiece in the win over Paladin. Mathews and Mike Dawson, also from the TOTS, played in the game. Dawson played in the field, but did not bat today, while Mathews went 0 for 1 with a ground out.

The Toros (1-1) are out at Red Mountain Park in east Mesa on Monday and take on the Mudville 9 at 10:00 a.m. The Mudville 9 are 0-2 in the world series and have given up 29 runs in the two games.
