The Clarence Fieber Memorial Game a close one...

TOTS Baseball

Team Blue hung on to beat Team White today 4-2 at Tucson Udall Park in the Clarence Fieber Memorial Game. The good news: I finally got some wood on the ball as I knocked in both runs and went 3 for 3, while playing third base for the White Team. The bad news: Team Blue came out the winners today, behind 73-year-old Chico Bigham who collected two hits and drove in two runs, while pitcher Billy Heiny -- the 82-year-old right-hander, went the distance and picked up the win.

Right-hander Ed Rife, 75, took the loss and all four runs were unearned as the Blue Team committed five errors. The gusty winds played havoc on the players and onlookers today, but approximately 50 people gathered after the game to honor Fieber, who passed away last May at the age of 91, the oldest TOT to take the field in the 45-year history of the Tucson Old Timers Baseball club.
