Team Blue edges Team White behind Palmer's 5-hitter

Tucson Old Timers (TOTS)

60-and-over baseball

Reed Palmer took a shutout into the seventh inning and John Mathews went 2 for 4 and knocked in two runs as Team Blue edged Team White 4-1 in a 60-and-over baseball game today at Udall Park.

Palmer lost his shutout bid, thanks to an infield hit by Bob Daliege and a booming double off the right field fence by hard-hitting lefty Tim Tolson. The two hits in the seventh by Team White were the fourth and fifth hit allowed by the 6-foot-5 Palmer.

It was certainly a battle of the "twin towers" today as Team White's 6-foot-2 starting pitcher, Tim Boyd, pitched well for six innings, but was saddled with the loss. Pete Maldonado pitched the final inning for Team White.

The TOTS will be back in action on Wednesday. Game time: 9 AM
