Barzell top TOT performer in September

Lloyd Barzell, 63, out-hit, out-scored and out-pitched his Tucson Old Timers (TOTS) teammates during the month of September. The latest stats show Barzell with 22 hits in 33 at bats for a hefty .667 batting average. Barzell, who played in all 11 games during the month of September, scored 18 runs and knocked in 13 runs.
Other top producers for the month include Pete Peters (15 for 28, a .536 average, he also scored 13 runs and knocked in 12 runs), Chico Bigham (13 for 29, a .448 average), Ted Davis (11 for 19, a .579 average), Brian Reilly (10 for 22, a .400 average), Pigpen Price (11 for 27, a .407 average) and Ron Petersen (9 for 23, a .391 average).
Jesse Ochoa also swung a hot bat, but only played in five games during the month of September. Ochoa went 10 for 12 for a smoldering .833 average. Dan Lundwall played in six games and went 8 for 17 for a .471 clip, while Tim Tolson played in just seven games, but went 8 for 20, a .400 average.
Barzell (above photo) was the top pitcher for the month. The hard-throwing right-hander won four games, lost one and was involved in two games which ended up a tie.
Other statistical leaders include 76-year-old Bob Katz, who led the club in walks with 11, while Peters and Tolson led in doubles with three apiece. In the 80-and-over group it was Billy Heiny, 84, and Floyd Lance, 88, leading the way. Heiny went 5 for 25 and played in 10 games -- a .200 average, while Lance played in five games and went 5 for 11, a .455 average.
The TOTS are heading into fall play as the long, hot summer is behind them.
