San Antonio beats New England in MSBL World Series opener

70-and-over division



The San Antonio Texans won their 2018 MSBL World Series opener at Riverview Park in Mesa today with a 12-5 victory over the New England Red Sox.

Darlan Brin, from the Virgin Islands, started for San Antonio and pitched five innings, while Bob Daliege tossed three innings of relief to pick up the save. Peter Peters went 2 for 4, Pigpen Price went 1 for 2 with a walk and two runs-batted-in, Bill Mishler walked three times and scored a run, while Lloyd Barzell picked up an RBI.

Daliege, Peters, Price, Mishler and Barzell are members of the 60-and-over Tucson Old Timers.

Joe Jimenez, who plays for the 60-and-over Tucson Old Pueblo Club, started for New England and was saddled with the loss.

San Antonio will play a doubleheader on Tuesday with a game at 9 a.m. inside Tempe Diablo Stadium against Tri Valley, followed by a 12:30 game at Tempe Annex Field #1 against Seattle.

Note: San Antonio had the pleasure of playing against former Major League pitcher Bill "Spaceman" Lee today. Lee played first base today for the New England Red Sox. Lee played 14 years in the majors with Boston and Montreal. He won 119 games.
