It's time for Mathews, Dawson to shine at 60-and-over MSBL World Series in Phoenix

It's time for Big John Mathews and Mike "Mr. Smoothie" Dawson to shine at the Men's Senior Baseball League World Series in Phoenix as the dynamic duo from the 60-and-over Tucson Old Timers baseball club pack their bags on Sunday and head north.

Palidan opens play on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Papago Park against the Valcanoes.

It'll be Mathews second MSBL World Series and Dawson's first.

Dawson, 63, is an all around player for the TOTS and plays a smooth shortstop, similar to a former great player on the TOTS, Ed Rife. Mathews is a tall, hard-hitting first baseman who bats right-handed and throws left.

Seven players from the TOTS, Pigpen Price, Pete Peters, Bob Daliege, Bill Mishler, Lloyd Barzell, Tim Tolson and Joe Opocensky have completed action during the last two weeks at the MSBL World Series.

The fun is still ahead for Mathews and Dawson.

Go get 'em, guys!
