Remembering Bob Gibson

 Remembering Bob Gibson

I was 23 years old when Bob Gibson took the mound for the St. Louis Cardinals in the first game of the 1968 World Series against the Detroit Tigers.

A game Gibson dominated. The Hall of Fame pitcher struck out 17 batters -- including the great Al Kaline three times.

The game was played on October 2, 1968.

Gibson passed away at the age of 84 on October 2, 2020.

The starting lineups on that glorious day in 1968.

Detroit -- Dick McAuliffe, Mickey Stanley, Al Kaline, Norm Cash, Willie Horton, Jim Northrup, Bill Freehan, Don Wert and Denny McLain. St. Louis -- Lou Brock, Curt Flood, Roger Maris, Orlando Cepeda, Tim McCarver, Mike Shannon, Julian Javier, Dal Maxvill and Gibson.

Now. There's some big names.
