Boxberger goes 4 for 4 in TOTS win

Tucson Old Timers (TOTS)

60-and-over baseball

Danny Boxberger went 4 for 4 and Reed Palmer pitched seven strong innings as Team White edged Team Blue 7-3 today at Udall Park in a 60-and-over baseball game.

Palmer helped his own cause in the first inning with a two-run double off the center field fence and Boxberger was a thorn in the side of Team Blue pitcher Pete Maldonado all day. Team Blue tried to battle back in the later innings as left fielder John Mathews went 3 for 3 and second baseman Dick Ducklow went 2 for 3 and drove in two runs.

The play of the day went to Team Blue third baseman Pigpen Price, who made a diving catch on a hard hit ball off the bat of Team White's David Byars. As for Byars, he collected two hits today and is  one of the TOTS' hottest hitters for the month of March.

Price said, after the game, "I paid for that one. David has been pounding the ball all month. He just happened to hit one close enough for me to grab it."

Later in the game, Byars hit one off the left field fence."I'm seeing the ball pretty good right now," said Byars, the newest addition to the TOTS' organization.

The TOTS return to action on Friday at Udall Park. Game time: 10 a.m.
