Towering home run by Tolson not enough to beat Team Blue
Tucson Old Timers (TOTS)
60-and-over baseball
Tim Tolson is the top home run hitter on the 60-and-over Tucson Old Timers (TOTS).
Tolson's home run blast this morning cleared the scoreboard in deep center field at Udall Park -- a good 330 feet from home plate, but it wasn't enough to give Team White a win as Team Blue held on for a 10-6 win.
With the temperature at 9 a.m already hovering over the 103 degree mark, Tolson, a lefty, sent a Lloyd Barzell fastball into orbit. Too bad the blast didn't bring rain.
It was a hot one from the get go today. Barzell got the win and Bob Daliege was saddled with the loss. Pete Peters had two hits for Team Blue and knocked in three runs.
The TOTS will stay out of the heat tomorrow and will be back in action on Wednesday.
By 2 p.m the temperature had reached 111 degrees today and there was a chance the gauge could reach 115 by 5 p.m. That's down right hot, but still not hot enough to keep the TOTS off the field.
