Arizona stuns Miami

College World Series

Arizona (45-21) took advantage of first-inning wildness from Miami's Michael Mediavilla, jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back tonight en route to a 5-1 opening-round win at the College World Series in Omaha.

Nathan Bannister (12-2) got the job done for the Wildcats with seven strong innings and Cameron Ming closed it out for the save as the two pitchers allowed one run and struck out 14 Miami batters.

Jared Oliva knocked in two of the three runs in the first inning with a single to right and Zach Gibbons added two insurance runs in the fifth inning with a two-run double.

Way to go, Wildcats!

Next up: Oklahoma State on Monday.
