Petersen leads Team White to 5-3 TOTS' win

Tucson Old Timers (TOTS)

60-and-over baseball

Ron Petersen, 74, went 3 for 3 and drove in two runs to lead Team White to a 5-3 win over Team Blue today at Udall Park in a 60-and-over Tucson Old Timers game.

Team White's Doc Thompson allowed just three hits and one run in five innings of work and Reed Palmer pitched the final two innings and ended up with the win. Thompson hasn't pitched this season and decided five innings was enough for today.

"I felt pretty good, but I didn't want to push it." Thompson said.

Palmer took the mound in the top of the sixth with Team White up 3-1, but found himself in trouble when Ken Nebesny singled in a run and Pigpen Price tied the game with a single over the bag at third base.

In the bottom of the sixth, Team White regained the lead for good on RBI doubles from Steve Foster and Petersen. Team Blue tried to come back in the top of the seventh and received a single from Brack Whitaker and a double by Roger Beebe, but both runners were left stranded when Palmer got the final out on a force play to end the game.

The TOTS will take the weekend off and return to action on Monday at Udall. Game time: 10 a.m.
