Mr. Cub, gone!

Ernie Banks passed away this week at the age of 83.

Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1977, Banks hit 512 home runs and is currently tied for 22nd with Eddie Mathews for career homers.

What a class act he was. Sometimes when we leave the dugout to play a 60-and-over Tucson Old Timers (TOTS) game, I'll comment "let's play two" in honor of Mr. Banks.

Of course, the TOTS are lucky enough to complete a seven inning game these days, but there are a few members who would PLAY TWO if they had the chance.

Banks once said, "When I wake up in the morning, I feel like a billionaire without paying taxes."

Mr. Cub earned a salary of $65,000 in 1967.

Ernie Banks, R.I.P.
