Tucson Cool Arrows 8 Tucson Aces 3
65-and-over baseball
MSBL 2014 World Series
Tucson Aces
The Tucson Aces are heading for Phoenix next month to compete in the 65-and-over Central division of the Men's Senior Baseball League World Series. Today at Mission Manor Park, the Aces took on the 2012 MSBL 60-and-over champions, the Tucson Cool Arrows.
Surprisingly, the Aces held their own against the MSBL champs. A five-run third inning by the Arrows was the difference as they prevailed over the Aces, 8-3.
The Aces loaded the bases in the first inning and in the top of the eighth, but couldn't get the key hit when they needed it as the Arrows' pitching staff was rock solid. The Arrows sent four pitchers to the mound and all four were effective. On a positive note, the Aces got a feel for what they will be facing in Phoenix.
This year's Aces include: Pete Peters, Ron Petersen, Tim Tolson, Danny "Pigpen" Price, Vic Acuna, Bob Daliege, Dave Rhoades, Dan Lundwall, George Gafner, Arnie White, Dennis Crowley and Chico Bigham. Ten of the players are members of the 60-and-over Tucson Old Timers, the 46-year old baseball organization which plays three days a week at Udall Park. Gafner and Acuna are on loan from the Tucson south-side 60-and-over Arizona Rattlers.
The MSBL schedule for the 65-and-over teams will be announced later this week and will be posted on Bookemdanosports.
