Angels flying high

The Major League Baseball regular season is winding down and it's the Los Angeles Angels with their heads in the clouds. The Angels, currently on an eight-game winning streak, have built a 10-game lead in the AL West over second-place Oakland.

At 91-55, the Angels are the only team with a great shot at winning 100 games. They go after win number 92 at home tonight against the Houston Astros. The Baltimore Orioles (86 -59) own the second best record. Washington (83-62) and the LA Dodgers (83-62) own the best record in the National League.

Washington, the NL East leader, visit the Mets tonight, while the Dodgers, the leader in the NL West, battle the Giants in San Francisco.

The Orioles, currently on a four-game winning streak, will need to finish 14-3 the rest of the way to reach the century mark. Possible, but not likely.

On the other end, the  Arizona Diamondbacks (59-87) are not the worst team in the majors. It's the lowly Texas Rangers at 54-92. The Texas fans must be boiling.  Of course, the D'backs and the Colorado Rockies own identical records and are battling for the bottom spot in the NL West.

Playoffs are just around the corner.
