It's time for some Ironwood Ridge football

Ironwood Freshmen Football

My grandson, Jadon Price, is growing up.

Jadon will don a different football jersey this season as he graduates into freshman football at Ironwood Ridge High School.

And what a program it is. He may be a year or two away from the varsity, but he's right where he needs to be as the 2014 season gets underway on Thursday at Cienega High School. Game time is 4 p.m. and is one of nine games Jadon will participate in this season.

Jadon has been working out in the starting lineup -- on offense as a wing-back and on defense as a corner back. Two active and tough positions. He's already nursing a leg injury and will have to "man-up" for the opener.

Football is a tough sport, especially when you are 5-feet-8 and weigh in the neighborhood of 145 pounds. The Ironwood coaching staff has had Jadon and his teammates in the weight room over the summer and he's bulking up a bit -- may even look like "Hercules" by his senior year.

Young men, participating in the world of sports today, have a lot going for them as they strive to become the best they can be in the sport of their choosing.

Good luck, Jadon and go for PAYDIRT!
