Arizona 58 UNLV 13
Arizona Wildcats Football
The Arizona Wildcats amassed 787 yards of offense tonight in front of their home crowd and cruised to an easy 58-13 win over the UNLV Rebels to open the 2014 season in impressive fashion.
Led by freshman quarterback Anu Solomon, who completed 25 of 44 passes for 425 yards and four touchdowns, Arizona had its way with the Rebels from the get go, jumping out to a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, a 24-6 advantage at the half and then turned on the after-burners, outscoring UNLV 34-7 in the second half.
When Solomon wasn't throwing the ball down the field, he was handing off to Teris Jones-Grigsby and Nick Wilson. Jones-Grigsby carried the ball 13 times for a 124 yards and one touchdown, while Wilson made the most of his seven carries with 104 yards rushing and a touchdown. Solomon ran for 50 yards as the Wildcats totaled 353 yards on the ground.
The Wildcats broke a 45-year-old record with the 787 yards of total offense. The old record was set in 1969 against New Mexico when they totaled 691 yards.
It's on to Texas on Thursday and a meeting with the University of Texas at San Antonio, winners tonight over Houston, 27-7. The UTSA team is called the Roadrunners and they'd better be ready for a foot race...the Wildcats are on their way.
