Ironwood Ridge High School Freshmen Football

The Ironwood Ridge High School freshmen football team opened their season today with a 28-14 win at Cienega over the Bobcats. Grandson Jadon Price rushed six times for 25 yards in his first start at wing back for the Nighthawks.

Ironwood Ridge, down 6-0 with five second left in the first half, scored on the final play before intermission when quarterback Noah Pallanes found Nick Brahler in the end zone on a 25-yard scoring play.

It was all Nighthawks in the second half as Ironwood went back to the running game -- scoring midway through the third quarter a 15-yard run up the middle by Diego Limon and then adding two fourth quarter scores on a 5-yard scamper by Pallanes and a 10-yard run by Brahler.

The Nighthawks added four points in the second half, tacking on two 2-point conversions -- one by Pallanes on a run to the right corner of the end zone and the other by Price with a 2-yard scamper to the left corner of the end zone.

Price, nursing a leg injury, played the entire game, gutting it out on both ends of the ball -- playing the right corner back position on defense and the wing back spot on offense.

Jadon and the Nighthawks (1-0) go for their second win next Thursday at home against Marana.
