Men's Senior Baseball League World Series
65-and-over division
Tucson Toros
Hard-throwing right-hander Roberto Balteirra threw a one-hit shutout at Mesa's Bell Bank Park today in the 65-and-over division of the Men's Senior Baseball League World Series as the Tucson Toros won 9-0 over the Puget Sound Mariners.
The only hit came in the ninth inning on a slow roller to shortstop, and the throw to first was a split second late and ruined the not-hit bid.
Balteirra had plenty of support at the plate from the Tucson crew as Sam Dean was a perfect 3 for 3, Randy Livingston collected three hits, Bobby Long added a hit and an RBI, while Mike Dawson continued his hot hitting this week with two more hits.
According to Dawson, John Mathews did not pick up a hit but was robbed of one early in the game. The other player on the Toros' roster from the TOTS, reliever Larry "Wild Thing" Abramson, was not needed on the mound today.
The win clinched a spot in tomorrow's playoffs at Bell Bank Park. The time and opponent are to be announced later this evening.
Way to go, Toros!
