TOTS' dress-out, birthday game goes to Team Blue, 6-2

Tucson Old Timers (TOTS)

60-and-over baseball

Reed Palmer knocked in three runs, including two insurance runs with a single off the right field fence in the top of the seventh inning to lift Team Blue to a 6-2 win over Team White in a 60-and-over Tucson Old Timers' birthday game celebration at Udall Park this morning.

All the TOTS with birthdays in the third quarter of the year were honored after the game and it was pizza, sodas and homemade ice cream for all during the after-game festivities.

The game was close through four innings of play with Team White holding on to a 2-1 lead, but Team Blue scored three in the sixth and two in the seventh to put the game on ice.

John Miaiaszek, David Byars and Palmer  collected two hits apiece for the winners, while Mike Steele, Mike Dawson and Pete Maldonado ended up with two hits apiece for Team White.

Lefty Dennis Crowley gave up 10 hits, allowing a run in the first inning and a run in the second. He struck out two and walked four, while Maldonado was saddled with the loss, but was in complete control as usual -- walking just one batter.

Chuck Sabalos, 71, who has been away from the playing field for over a year, returned to action today and went 1 for 3. "I'm a little sore," Sabalos said, after the game.

The TOTS will finish up the week with a game on Friday at Udall. Game time: 9 a.m.
