Major League Baseball
John Fogerty may have said it best in his song, Centerfield.
"Put me in, coach. I'm ready to play."
Sir Albert, as in Albert Pujols, didn't have to ask last night as Dave Roberts motioned toward the big fella: "You're in."
The LA Dodgers were struggling at the plate as the San Francisco Giants were busy sending every pitcher they could find to the mound to confuse Roberts and his players for that matter.
Seconds later, Pujols ripped his 678th career home run in the top of the ninth inning over the fence in left-center field -- a two-run shot to pull the Dodgers within two runs at 6-4.
That was it. The 6-4 loss at Oracle Park in San Francisco left the Dodgers one game behind the Giants -- the two teams with the best records in baseball. The Dodgers now 86-51 and the Giants with a major league best at 87-50.
