Wildcats sweep three-game series with Eastern Michigan

The Arizona Wildcats opened their 2015 baseball season with a three-game sweep of Eastern Michigan, winning 7-3 on Friday, 16-3 on Saturday and 6-2 Sunday afternoon at Hi Corbett Field.

Austin Schnabel picked up the win in the opener. Schnabel threw 6 2/3 innings, allowed six hits and three earned runs, while striking out eight and walking just one batter. Zach Gibbons went 2 for 4 and scored a run to lead the Wildcats, while Scott Kingery drove in two runs and scored a run.

In Game 2, Robbie Medel picked up the win, hurling 7 2/3 innings. He struck out four and didn't walk a batter and allowed five hits. Kingery led the Wildcats 21-hit attack with five hits in six trips to the plate -- including a triple and a home run. Bobby Dalbec also tripled and homered.

In today's finale, Tyger Talley goes 7 1/3 innings and tosses a three-hitter as the Wildcats improve to 3-0. Kevin Newman went 2 for 4 for the Wildcats.

Next up: North Dakota State in a two-game series at Hi Corbett, Tuesday and Wednesday (Feb. 17-18).
