Misiaszek's inside-the-park homer ignites TOTS' win

60-and-over baseball

John Misiaszek hit an inside-the-park home run to ignite Team Blue to an 11-1 win over Team White in a 60-and-over baseball game today at Jesse Owens Park.

With the Tucson Old Timers home field under repair at Udall Park, the TOTS set up shop at the spacious Jesse Owens Park and Team Blue took advantage of the big field to score five runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to an easy win. Pigpen Price went 3 for 3 today to add to the Team Blue onslaught.

Pitcher Lloyd Barzell came within one out of a shutout as he blanked Team White for 6 2/3 innings. Team White scored its lone run when Bob Daliege reached and scored later in the seventh inning, thanks to an infield error. Barzell allowed seven hits in the game and picked up the pitching victory, while Arnie White was saddled with the loss.

Today's game was the first game of the month for the TOTS, who have been unable to take the field the last two weeks due to bad weather -- including close to two inches of rain which doused the streets of Tucson last weekend.

But the TOTS are back and the good weather is back as well with 80 degree temperatures expected for most of next week. The TOTS return to Udall on Monday.

TOTS footnote: The TOTS played just nine games in January. Thunder Tim Tolson was the club's hitting star for the month. Tolson played in eight games and went 22 for 31 at the plate for a .710 batting average. Tolson scored 20 runs, hit seven doubles, two triples and one home run, while leading the club in RBI with 21.
