Will Rogers will not be a vaudeville act

Arizona Wildcats Football

Arizona Opener: Mississippi State at Arizona

Time: 8 PM at Arizona Stadium

It's been a longtime since I've heard the name Will Rogers.

The Rogers I'm referring to passed away in 1935 -- ten years before I was born. He died in a plane crash with aviator Wiley Post in northern Alaska.

He was an entertainer, a vaudeville performer and a humorist...and had more famous quotes, political and otherwise...than Yogi Berra himself, who at the time of Rogers' death was 10 years old. Rogers, at one point in his life was the highest paid actor in Hollywood...and the mayor of Beverly Hills.

Fast forward to Saturday night, September 10, 2022, and a new Will Rogers is in town and is quickly making a name for himself as the quarterback of the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Last week, in the Bulldogs' opener, Rogers threw for 450 yards and five touchdowns as Mississippi State rolled to 49-23 win over Memphis.

To make a long story short: If Arizona's defense can contain Rogers at Arizona Stadium tonight, then the Wildcats have a chance for a win and a 2-0 start.

Go, Wildcats!
