Colorado defensive end Boomer Bauch signs with Arizona

From the desk of Grandpa Dan...

Most readers know how my mind works...so the following should be no surprise.

The Players in 2022: My Great Grandchildren -- Braven "Boomer" Bauch and Fallon Price... and my Grandson Chaseman Price -- the youngest of the Price Clan, in the beginning, stages of their lives along the Western Slope of Colorado.

...And a peek at some older Tucson Old Timers (TOTS).

And now for a bit of fiction...

Article from the Arizona Daily Star Sports Page

The Year: 2043

The most sought-after prep defensive lineman out of Colorado will be heading for Tucson this fall and joining the 2043 University of Arizona Football team.

At 6-foot-4, 240 pounds, Braven "Boomer" Bauch led the Grand Valley  High School Cardinals to the 4A state title two years ago as a center on offense and spearheaded the Cardinals' defense that allowed only two touchdowns in 10 games.

Joining him in Arizona will be his nephew, Fallon Price, who recently signed on to play baseball at Arizona. Price was the top prep shortstop in Colorado in 2039, while Bauch played at Northern Colorado for two years after graduating from Grand Valley.

"We are pleased to have Bauch heading our way," said the Arizona head coach Bijan Robinson. "And I know the Wildcats' baseball coach Alex Verdugo is pleased to have Price on the roster next spring."

The two new Wildcats are in town this week, along with Chase Price, the boys' Uncle and currently the head football coach at Grand Valley High School, for a senior amateur baseball celebration at Tucson Udall Park. Chase Price is in his third season as the Cardinals' mentor and owns an unblemished record at 30-0.

"Arizona is getting the top defender on the Western Slope and the entire state of Colorado. He will certainly shore up their defense," said Price, better known as "Chaseman" in the prep circles in and around the Grand Junction, Colorado area. Price was the top prep tight end in the state in 2026-27.

"We are in town to honor the 60-and-over Tucson Old Timers, an amateur senior baseball team celebrating their 75th year," Coach Price said. "Our Grandpa, Dan "Pigpen" Price, played 30 years for the TOTS before he passed away in 2038."

Fallon Price, a junior college star at Trinidad State last year, added: "There's a big shindig at Trail Dust Town on Saturday night as the organization is honoring one of the TOTS' best teams ever -- the 2022 Tucson Old Timers."

The TOTS organization dates back to 1968; over the years, some 500 players have come and gone and donned a TOTS uniform. Three players from the 2022  TOTS will be honored on Saturday night- the club's career home run record holder Reed Palmer; John Mathews, a former long ball hitter and star first baseman; and Mike Dawson, the manager of the ball club back then. Palmer is now 87, Mathews is 87, and Dawson is 88.

The TOTS trio ran into the visitors from Colorado on Friday morning at Udall Park while the 2043 version of the TOTS were busy playing a seven-inning game. "The players are getting younger and younger all the time," Dawson explained to the boys from Colorado. "Most of the players are in their 60s.  Reed, John, and I are the real old-timers now. We get our swings in now and then."

Fallon asked: "How good was my Great Grandpa?"

"He was a good ballplayer. He had his moments." Mathews said. "He spent a lot of time on the ground. That's why we called him Pigpen. He played until he was 93. We miss the old fella."

Boomer said: "I sure wish I could've seen him play."

"I miss him," said Chase. "I still have a couple of his old bats."

And, of course, the one who started it all: Grandpa Dan, aka Pigpen Price.
