Tucson Old Timers (TOTS)

60-and-over baseball

After a hand full of rain outs, the 60-and-over Tucson Old Timers (TOTS) played their first game of the year today at Udall Park. Team White won the game 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning,  thanks to consecutive singles from Tim Tolson and John Mathews, followed by a throwing error by  Team Blue shortstop Reed Palmer, who fielded a hard hit ball off the bat of Dick Ducklow and threw low to first base. Tolson scampered home from third base with the game-winning run.

Mathews, who reached base in the seventh inning with his third hit of the game, knocked in two runs and scored a run, while Doc Thompson led Team Blue with two hits in two trips to the plate. Thompson pitched the first five innings for Team Blue and struck out five batters. Bob Daliege relieved Thompson in the sixth and was saddled with the loss. Right-hander Pete Maldonado pitched all seven innings for Team White and picked up the win.

The TOTS will be back in action on Monday at Udall Park. Game time 10 a.m.
