Tucson Old Timers (TOTS)

60-and-over baseball

With 10 players on the 60-and-over Tucson Old Timers out of town participating in the 35th Men's Senior Baseball League World Series, there were still games to be played at Udall Park.

Mark Rupert, John Cooke, and Gary Cuttler picked up the slack during October.

Rupert led the club in hits with a 15 for 36 performance at the plate, a .417 average. At the same time, Cooke and Cuttler tied for second with 14 hits in 21 at-bats for identical .667 batting averages.

Cooke was the eagle-eye at the plate with four walks, a club high, while Cuttler led the TOTS in RBI with 10.

Other top hitters included Joe Opocensky (12 for 28), Ron Ryan (11 for 27), Dennis Crowley (11 for 21), Ken Nebesny (10 for 13, in 4 games), and Brack Whitaker (10 for 28). Whitaker, Rupert, and Carl Schwanbeck played in all 10 games.

Also picking up the slack while the boys were away in Phoenix at the MSBL World Series were Jesse Ochoa (9 for 22), David Byars (8 for 19), Jimmy Kinion (9 for 21), Mike Steele (8 for 14), Pete Peters (7 for 9), and Reed Palmer (8 for 14).

On the mound, Crowley was a perfect 3-0 and pitched the most innings (19). Palmer (2-0) was the strikeout king for the month with eight.

Way to go, TOTS!
