60-and-over baseball

John Mathews hit a sac fly in the top of the ninth inning to break an 8-8 tie as the 60-and-over Tucson Aces went on to knock off the Old Pueblo Club 11-8 at Santa Rita Park this morning. The Aces added two insurance runs and reliever Reed Palmer took care of matters in the bottom of the ninth to pick up the save.

Joe Opocensky and Dave Byars contributed three hits apiece on the day. The Aces used three pitchers -- Opocensky, Mike Dawson and Palmer.  Opocensky started and did not allow a run, Dawson gave up four runs as did Palmer.

The Aces led 4-0 in the fifth and increased their lead to 8-4 in the top of the eighth, before Old Pueblo came roaring back in the bottom of the eighth.
