Barzell breaks the TOTS' single-season hits record in 2015

Lloyd Barzell is a hitting machine for the 60-and-over Tucson Old Timers (TOTS).

Barzell, 65, shattered the single-season hitting record in 2015 with 246 hits. He batted 413 times and played in 111 games. His .596 average was best on the ball club, beating out Pete Peters, who went 233 for 419, a .556 average, and Tim Tolson, who went 201 for 342, a .588 average.

Tolson, who led the ball club in 2015 with 13 home runs, established a new record for runs-batted-in with 189, while Barzell, also established a new record for runs scored with 201.

Other notable hitters for the Tucson Old Timers in 2015, included Doc Thompson and Floyd Lance.

Thompson played in only 72 games during the year, but batted a hefty .667 with 160 hits in 240 at bats. Lance, the oldest player on the TOTS at 90 years of age, finished 2015 with a .312 batting average, collecting 114 hits in 365 at bats. Lance played in a team-best 118 games.
