Arizona goes to 12-0

The Arizona Wildcats remained unbeaten with a 68-67 win tonight over 17th-ranked San Diego State in the championship game of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu. Solomon Hill, the tournament's MVP, led the Wildcats with 21 points and was assisted off the bench by Kevin Parrom who pumped in 17.

But it was guard Mark Lyons who wanted the ball in his hands with 24 seconds remaining and the game on the line.  Lyons took the inbounds pass with his team trailing 67-66, let 10 seconds run off the clock, and then drove to the bucket. He was fouled on the play, went to the line and calmly sank both free throws to give the Wildcats the lead with 13.1 seconds left on the clock.

The Aztecs had plenty of time to put up the game-winner and they went to their star player Chase Tapley to get it done, but Nick Johnson came up with the play of the game as he blocked Tapley's layup attempt, allowing the Wildcats to improve to 12-0 on the season.

Johnson finished with 11 points with just one turnover, while Lyons ended up with nine points and just three turnovers. Arizona turned the ball over just eight times tonight. Tapley led the Aztecs with 19 points.

The third-ranked Wildcats head home and will begin Pac-12 Conference play on Jan. 3 at McKale Center against Colorado.
